In May 83 members attended our monthly meeting.
Our speaker in May was Jenny Clarke BSc presenting Physiotherapy and Remaining Active. She is local, based in Bridge Street Saxilby.
She is very ‘down to earth’, enthusiastic and clearly loves her job. She advocates that “ageing IS inevitable but turning into a creaky, aching, stiff, old wardrobe is not!” The normal changes in the body should not equal pain, she claims. Jenny demonstrated some exercises to help strengthen the pelvic floor (a structure not exclusive to females: apparently we all have one!)
She also graphically described how to strengthen the core (this caused quite a few titters from the membership). Pain should be a red flag warning that the niggles we experience may develop into more serious issues. We move less because it hurts, we lose strength and mobility so it feels even harder to get moving and so the vicious cycle continues.
Jenny and her team offered a free 15minute phone consultation to all u3a members.
