Hello and welcome to Saxilby u3a’s website. We believe that here you can find all the information and help that you may need to just learn about us or to join us. We are part of National u3a which was founded in the UK in 1981 by three men embarking on the ‘third age’ of their lives. They contemplated the cultural, intellectual and leisure prospects for older people: move forward to today and there over 1000 u3a groups nationally. The concept in the UK is one of self-help organisations under the influence of its founders and a central head office, however, all parent groups are autonomous and we are here for those no longer in full time employment.
No payments are made to members for services rendered to any u3a so each u3a is self-funded by subscriptions and costs are kept as low as possible. It costs £20 per year for Saxilby u3a membership to come to our monthly meeting (£2 if you are a non-member) on the third Thursday of the month at 10am in Saxilby Village Hall which is on the High Street. In return there is the opportunity to meet and make new friends who share similar interests and lifestyles. A speaker attends each monthly meeting and they vary from Physio and Keeping Active, to Climate Change and Internet Safety and History of the Jazz Piano. Free refreshments are served along with chatting and laughter and future events are discussed.
Our group leaders are members who co-ordinate our diverse interest groups. They range from Table Tennis to Cribbage, from Wine Appreciation to Quizzes, from Badminton to Knit and Natter, from Poetry to Pub Lunches and so many more. We are always happy for members to start new groups of interest or leisure and to this end they are fully supported by our committee. We arrange visits that range from coached days out to places of interest or car shares to evenings of theatre productions.
Why not come along to one of our monthly meetings? You will be made very welcome and will soon meet people, we are very inclusive, regardless of background, religion or culture and no formal qualifications are required to join the University of the Third Age.
If you would like to join SAXILBY U3A, please contact the membership secretary using the Contacts page.
